How One UI 6.0 displays internal storage capacity
Mobile Device
Nov 27, 2023
With the release of One UI 6.0, Galaxy device users may notice some differences in how certain features appear in comparison to previous One UI versions. The primary reason for the difference is the computer code used to create the software, and one place that users may notice the effects of the code change is in how the storage is displayed.
How storage is displayed in One UI 6.0
The storage capacity specified in One UI 6.0 and later specifications for Samsung Galaxy mobile products may differ from the display capacity in versions prior to One UI 6.0.
The capacity display in One UI 6.0 and later products uses a decimal system whereas earlier versions of smartphones, tablets, Microsoft Windows, and watch OS use a binary system.
※ Note: Some third-party apps, like OneDrive, use binary which may cause the displayed capacity to look different within the My Files app on Samsung Galaxy mobile products that run One UI 6.0 or later.
About internal storage
The system storage on Galaxy smartphones is allocated for the OS and One UI. Galaxy devices running older versions of One UI use binary to calculate the system capacity. However, starting with One UI 6.0, they use decimal units to calculate the system capacity.
