Use Smart Edge Blending with The Freestyle 2023
Samsung’s portable projector, The Freestyle 2023, can freely configure a variety of images with its compact design. If you have two of these projectors, you can use the Smart Edge Blending feature, which connects both units to form one seamless image. This lets you utilize a wide space in your home or office to show off artwork.
Note: The Smart Edge Blending feature is now available on The Freestyle's 2023 model. It is expected to be supported on The Freestyle’s 2022 model in the near future.
Smart Edge Blending lets you place two The Freestyle units next to each other in order to view a wide image, such as a piece of artwork. This can be done horizontally or vertically to view a landscape or portrait image. The overlapping area of the two images is automatically adjusted as if it were a single image.
Before you can use Smart Edge Blending, you will need to set up both projectors and then add them to the SmartThings app on your phone.
Note: You will need to add the PIN that is shown on the projector’s screen to the SmartThings app.
Note: Steps may differ depending on model, device, and software.
To set up Smart Edge Blending with two The Freestyle projectors, you will need to make sure they are both added to the same Wi-Fi network. In addition, at least one of the projectors must be added to the SmartThings app on your phone (refer to the section above if you need assistance).
- All eight rectangular markers on the guide screen should remain visible without overlapping.
- The symbols that distinguish each projector on the left and right should remain visible.
- All markings on the guide screen should be clearly visible and not curved or protruding.
Note: A brightly lit room may decrease the guide screen’s visibility.
Notes:
- When using the Smart Edge Blending feature, set the projection direction of both Freestyles to the front (with the Samsung logo pointing down). If you set the direction to the ceiling or rear, the function may not work properly.
- It is recommended to position The Freestyle unit facing forward.
- The Smart Edge Blending feature requires SmartThings version 1.8.5.24 or later on Android devices and SmartThings version 1.7.5.21 or later on iOS devices.
- Galaxy devices support both image and video formats. iOS devices support images only.
- The Picture Mode for Smart Edge Blending is automatically set to be the same for both projectors.
- Only the Return, Power, and Launch app buttons will function on The Freestyle’s remote control during Smart Edge Blending.
If you’d like to display multiple images with Smart Edge Blending, you can create a slideshow.
Note: Up to 30 photos can be selected when creating a slideshow.
- Slideshow Duration: Set your desired duration, such as 3 minutes, 30 minutes, or 1 hour.
- Slideshow random: Tap the switch to shuffle the images at random.
- Photo Options: Select Smart Crop to automatically crop the images to fit the screen or Screen Fit to display the images perfectly within the screen dimensions without any cropping or stretching.
Smart View allows you to mirror your phone’s screen to a larger screen, which makes it easier to watch videos or other content. You can use this feature with Smart Edge Blending.
Notes:
- Depending on the network status, you may experience audio or video interruptions while using Smart View.
- Mirroring (Smart View) may not function properly when using a 2.4 GHz connection. 5.0 GHz is recommended for both The Freestyles.
- Mirroring (Smart View) is supported only on Samsung Galaxy devices.
The following settings can be adjusted in the SmartThings app. To find these settings, tap The Freestyle’s card, then tap Smart Edge Blending, and then tap the Settings icon next to Smart Edge Blending.
