Pause USB PD (Power Delivery) charging when gaming feature on your Galaxy device
The 'Pause USB PD charging when gaming' feature in Galaxy smartphones helps to reduce heat production and protect battery life. When this setting is enabled, it stops charging the battery when the user is gaming while the device is connected to a power source.
Generally, while charging a Galaxy smartphone, power is used for both operating the device and charging the battery. To lessen the impact on the device during simultaneous gaming and charging, the 'Pause USB PD charging when gaming' feature pauses battery charging, therefore prioritising power supply to the device while gaming.
Notes:
- Even if the setting is enabled, this feature operates only when a PD charger (25W or higher, with Programmable Power Supply support) is connected, a game is running, and the battery holds a charge of 20% or more.
- Among PD (Power Delivery) chargers, only those with PPS (Programmable Power Supply) function and output power of 25W or more are supported.
- The 25W charger is not included with the purchase of a Galaxy phone.
- Support for this function varies by model. You can check the support details by going to Gaming Hub > More > Game Booster > Pause USB PD charging when gaming.
For this feature to be accessible in the Game Booster menu, the device needs to be connected to a PD charger before launching the Gaming Hub application.
Note: The "More" menu may appear in different locations depending on the version of the Gaming Hub.
The option to activate the 'Pause USB PD charging when gaming' feature will appear after you have connected a PD charger to your phone for the first time. For devices running One UI 6.0 or later, the support status can be verified in the settings without prior connection to the charger. Devices running older operating systems require connecting to the charger before support status can be verified.
Two conditions must be met for the 'Pause USB PD charging when gaming' feature to function:
- A game is running.
- A PD charger (25W or higher, must support PPS function) is connected and the battery charge is 20% or higher.
Even if a game is running, the feature will not work if other actions are being performed, such as turning off the screen or switching to another screen.
If the battery has less than 20% charge or if a non-PD charger is connected to the device, the battery will continue to charge according to standard operating procedures.
