How often to change the water filter for Samsung fridges?

The water filter needs to be changed when the Filter Indicator light turns red (see the picture of the control panel below). Usually this happens about every 6 months.  

• Blue: Initial insertion of the water filter
• Purple: When the water filter is used for 5 months
• Red: When the water filter is used for 6 months

To change the filter, press the Ice Type / Filter Change button for 3 seconds to reset the filter schedule and follow these steps:

1 Shut off the water supply. Then turn the water filter ( 1 ) about 1/4 turn anti-clockwise
2 Pull the water filter ( 1 ) from the case filter ( 2 ). During the process, water might leak. To minimize the water leakage, keep the filter cartridge horizontal when pulling it out. To prevent overflow, empty the water tray filter ( 3 ) and dry around of case filter ( 2 )

3 Insert the new filter into the filter case
4 Push the filter and then turn it clockwise until it locks.

Shut off the water supply valve if the water pressure is too great. The locked symbol should be lined up with the indicator line

5 Press the Alarm/hold 3 sec for Filter reset button for about 3 seconds to reset the water filter. The color of the indicator will change from red to blue, green or yellow
6 Make sure the water supply is turned back on (if it is previously turned off)
