Frequently asked questions regarding the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Fold5 hinge technology
The Galaxy Z Flip5 and Fold5 showcase an innovative Flex hinge technology, resulting in a remarkably smooth and seamless opening and closing process, with minimal to no gap when the device is closed. To learn more about the folding functionality of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 and Fold5 devices, please view the guide below.
To ensure smooth opening and closing of the Flex hinge, sections of the folding area are secured using adhesive, whilst maintaining small gaps in between for hinge movement. The design could result in subtle curves or bends along the device's fold, which could potentially be visible in direct lighting, but this doesn't indicate a defect.
Although the new hinge technology is complex and includes many parts, it is meticulously engineered to have adequate space for motion and shock absorption to ensure product durability. As a result, there may be minor deviations or movement that create a difference in frame height and alignment.
The Galaxy Z Flip5 may feel less rigid when opened or partially folded in comparison to previous Z-series devices. This is due to the new Flex hinge technology’s ability to create a seamless motion when opening and closing the foldable device.
Note: The Flex hinge is designed to handle over 200,000 folding and unfolding cycles on average. Therefore, the device should last more than 5 years if opened and closed 100 times a day.
As the device is folded, the synchronised movement of the metal hinge components might produce a sensation of snagging or clicking due to friction. Additionally, the flexible nature of certain components, like the flexible displays, can introduce slight resistance during movement. Rest assured, these sensations are natural and not indicative of a defect.
